Siezure of Cherokee lands by the State of Georgia
Banner of the Constitution - Dateline May 5, 1830 - Washington DC

It is well known that Georgia took Cherokee lands by legislative fiat. Here is an May 1830 account from the Banner of the Constitution published in Washington DC that describes the legislation passed by Georgia in detail, section by section. Very interesting reading to get an idea what the political climate was like for the Cherokees before removal. Indeed, their land was even siezed before they were removed, as in the case of the State of Georgia.
